Can Vinegar Cure Nail Fungus?
Can vinegar cure nail fungus is another common question around the web. It is widely posted on sites as one of many home type remedies but it is not easy to find proof that it has actually worked.
Toenail fungus is caused by a snall living organism that feeds off of nail debris and is very difficult to get rid of in most cases. One of the reasons for this is because it often lives beneath the surface of the nail and is very hard to reach with various treatments.
There are some forms of toenail fungus that are primarily on the surface of the nail but these instances are more rare. What this means is that solutions like vinegar will have little success in reaching the fungus inside the nail bed. Our skin and nails are designed to protect us from normal liquids.
Whether or not vinegar can cure nail fungus is still a question but it is an old folk type remedy for a number of ailments. Years ago, people did not have a lot of money or easy access to doctors so several solutions such as vinegar were used to relieve itching and pain.
Vinegar goes through a long fermentation process to be made and eventually it contains something called acetic acid. This acid is formed by bacteria and is what gives vinegar a harsh and sour taste. It is this acetic acid that some believe is the effective ingredient in killing nail fungus.
The most often recommended routine if you decide to try this as a nail fungus cure is to mix 50% water and 50% vinegar and soak your nails in it for 20-30 minutes per day.
If you don’t believe that vinegar can cure nail fungus, there are more powerful antifungal oil based products that can penetrate the skin and kill nail fungus.
